Mumble
By S.A. Jenkins
There she was looking at me with those unfathomable eyes. Her pretty face was distorted, as if she was trying to figure out what I was going to say. I opened my mouth to speak, yet no words emerged. All I managed was to let out some random noises which resembled a mouse squeak. Desperately hanging on to my self-esteem, I mumbled, “It’s a nice day today, isn’t it?”
She looked surprised at the comment but replied, "Yes, I love this sunny weather." I breathed a sigh of relief, mentally promising myself to memorise a speech before speaking to her again.
